Solar Panel Types
There are two main types of solar panel.
- Crystalline Silicon Solar Panels
- Amorphous Silicon Solar Panels
Crystalline silicon solar panels are constructed from crystalline silicon discs that are covered with dopants and conductors.
A thin layer of glass protects the silicon. A thermally conductive base of concrete provides stability for the unit and reduces overheating of the silicon.
Amorphous silicon solar panels are also constructed from crystalline silicon but in a series of continuous layers of vapor-depositing silicon alloys. Each layer absorpts adifferent part of the solar spectrum.
Amorphous silicon solar panels are more sophisticated and efficient than Crystalline Silicon Solar Panels. By their construction method they are also more robust and reliable.
